Pilates... Why?

By Core physio+pilates

Pilates is a mind- body conditioning system. Developed by Joseph Pilates in the mid 1940s, his corrective system of exercise was proposed to improve the rehabilitation program for the many returning veterans of World War I.

Joseph Pilates believed that mental and physical health are symbiotic and essential to each other. He recommended a few precise movements emphasizing control and form to aid injured soldiers in regaining their health by strengthening, stretching and stabilizing key muscles.

Today, Pilates is practiced by some of the most conditioned bodies which, belong to elite dancers and athletes all over the world. Its focus on a strong core and supple body has attracted the attention of many physical therapists as a safe and conditioning form of exercise for all body types, promoting the many studios popping up across cities and towns everywhere. Pilates can help with any injury and help those fit and active prevent injuries.

“The Pilates Principles” condition the entire body – proper alignment, centering, concentration, control, precision, breathing and flowing movement – encouraging strong and taught bodies for life!
